Why is it so hard to make friends in Britain?

I have been living in Northernireland for 2 years now and it took a while to find some close friends. First of all, do not expect to much and be patient. Britons really like the small-talk and the chat and ask you a "Loch in den Bauch" about your family, job, car, cat dog, house... In Germany such intensive communication is probably often seen as the beginning of a long-term relationship. To find some good friends, I would recommend to join a spotsclub or a charity organisation. You can meet there native speaker more regular which is a very good basis fot a long-term friendship.
