Dual Citizenship

  • Hey there -

I don't know if I can be of much help, however, I will try. On March 8, 2007, I will take my oath to become a United States citizen. I will be a dual American-German citizen. There is no American law prohibiting dual citizenship, however, it is not encouraged (diplomatic issues, etc.). Germany changed its immigration laws around 2000. I had to get a "Beibehaltungsgehmigung" through the Germany embassy before applying for US citizenship (prior to that the Germans prohibited dual citizenship). Check with the Foreign Ministry in Luxembourg if they allow dual citizenship. I am currently residing in Virginia, but plan on relocating to Luxembourg in April (I accepted a job there). Let me know if I can be of further help.
