good region to buy house

• despite the fact that all our friends say that it is not wise to buy an house in the UK because it is raining constantly over there, we are thinking of doing so... however, we are not sure where yet...
  
  we want to have some kind of holiday appartment in a beuatifull area with lots of nature. We love walking and biking for example. What areas are the best for that in the UK?
