An even bigger consideration than public or private for many expat parents is the language of instruction. Consequently, most parents tend to send their children to an international school where they are taught in their native tongue.
Others will send their kids to a foreign language college in order to give them the advantage of fluency in another tongue. Nearly all of Ecuador’s international schools are in either Quito or Guayaquil, mostly the former. Fees can be high.
