starting a hostel
-
Hello, my wife and I are looking to move to Portugal in the new year with a view to buying an old property and doing it up slowly to function as a hostel for travellers and surfers.
If anyone has any advice at all, it would be very gratefully received. I really need to find out as much as possible about the law regarding starting a business, running a hostel etc as well as information on tax and the cost of building work. So basically pretty much everything.
If anyne could recommend a book/website/place where I can get this sort of info I would be really grateful.
Many thanks for your help31 Oct 2006, 11:38 Anonymous

buying a ruin
Hi, my name is tony gillespie and I am a builder, I have been looking into the algarve for 5 years now and hope to move out there by may 2007. It is not as easy as you may think. The price for old property in the algarve is just as expensive as buying some new builds. 5 years ago you could buy an old house for renovation for under 50,000 euros the same property now will cost you 150,000. It is also very hard to find anything close to the beaches that need renovating, you would be better looking in the old towns for big old houses in need of repair as they are reasonably priced. Also building regulations are diferent from here you would need to check all building regs before you buy.To make sure you can do what you need to do. materials are fairly priced but if you can not do the work yourself you can find cheap labour but may need a site agent to run the job and get all the nessesary planning etc. Depending on how much you have to invest. It is a lot cheaper to buy a plot with planning permission and build. top class building costs are around 400 to 600 euros per sq mtr. If you need any more help please contact me and I will try my best to give you any help needed.
