au pair visa etc

• hello,
  i'm a canadian girl who wants to move to berlin. my boyfriend lives there, he's german. basically the only thing, besides marriage, that we can come up with is to become an au pair. i'm wondering if someone can give me some information on the process of getting a visa and whatever other paperwork is required.
