Working holiday visa and bar work

• I am currently on a NZ Passport with working holiday visa for Germany. I have approached a bar for work and they said I need a EU passport to wk, but they were not sure if I could on NZ one. Does anyone know if there is conditions to working in pubs in Germany (Hamburg area esp)?
  Cause I can not find anyhting stating this fact.
