  • This year's OECD study demonstrates that individuals with better qualifications are less likely to be unemployed than those with poorer qualifications. In Germany, a university education provides better protection against unemployment than in other industrialised nations. The percentage of the population completing higher education in Germany, however, remains below the OECD average. Germany has in fact fallen back from 10th to 22nd place in the international ranking list. In autumn the German government will be launching a national training campaign. The aim is to have 40 percent of any year-group enter higher education, explained Federal Minister of Education, Annette Schavan, at the presentation of the OECD Study, "Education at a Glance 2007".
